Booting Up Your Computer
|
Booting up is a procedure the computer undergoes immediately
after you turn it on or restart it. During the boot, your computer
loads the operating system, communicates with all of the installed
devices, and gets ready to run. You may hear beeps and see numbers
and words on the screen while your computer is booting. This is
normal.
|
Cold and Warm Boots
Every time you flip your computer's power switch to ON, you
perform a cold boot. This happens when you turn your computer
on first thing in the morning or while you're using your computer
and, for whatever reason, turn it off then turn it back on again.
A warm boot is when you restart your computer
without using the power switch. To execute a warm boot, press
the Ctrl+Alt+Delete keys.
|
Why Reboot?
Sometimes, your computer locks up while you're using it and/or
may stop responding to your input. If that happens, you should
reboot your computer with either a cold or a warm boot; usually,
the problem clears up when the computer restarts.
Many times you have to reboot your computer when you're installing
new software or hardware on your computer or when you make a change
to its configuration. Usually in these cases, the system prompts
you to restart your computer.
