Well It appears that there is not end in
site this Virus epidemic is ballooning fast. The latest, the so
called HTML Internal so far seems to be a fairly tame one but
it is the first to infect in HTML, in the wake of finding WinScript
rabbit just a few weeks ago (another new first) it seems that
the new wave will be washing in much sooner than wanted.
This one called HTML.Internal by the folks
at Central Command ( the AntiVirus distributor that found it)
appears to be harmless at first glance, But is it? The the company
said, it could lead to serious problems.
President of Central Command, the US distributor
of AntiViral Toolkit Pro.said
""Unfortunately, this technology can be exploited, and once it
gets on your computer, it can modify anything at that point. "It
can change settings on your PC, read/write files, or drop scripts
onto your computer."
This HTML.Internal will not affect a Netscape
environment, it only attacks Microsoft Internet Explorer and Internet
Information Server.
To protect yourself from this virus set
the IE security at a minimum of medium. Then before HTML.Internal
starts searching you will get a warning.
If you visit a site with HTML.Internal
on the server, it calls VBScript -- the Visual Basic scripting
language -- to search their local hard drives for all files with
.HTM and .HTML extensions.
If a infected HTML page is loaded, the
status bar at the top of the screen will read "HTML.Prepend /1nternal.
End users should use the security in their browsers not only in
windows.
To find Security in Internet Explorer 3.0
to 4.07 click View (at top of browser) then Internet options--->
Security tab.
Make sure it set at medium or higher.
In Internet Explorer 5.0 click Tools
(at top of browser) then Internet options---> Security tab.
Make sure it is set at medium or higher.
